Thought I was gonna get through Round 2 of Encanto without crying and then as SOON as they played the first chords of “Dos Oruguitas” I was a GONER.

God, this is just so good. SO GOOD! The kind of “they don’t make ‘em like they used to” movie that I’m thrilled to see the studios still financing (especially since these films seem to be on their last leg 🥲).

The definition of a “guilty pleasure” for me. Look, I don’t think I could ever defend the film’s quality - it takes WAY too long to get going, scenes drag on forever, the pacing is inconsistent, some of the effects are dodgy, etc etc etc. - but I… still didn’t fully hate it?

First of all, I kinda LOVED this cast (with the exception of Tom Hopper as Wesker, who is just not the right fit for the role whatsoever…

While The Rhythm Section is indeed heavily hampered by some ive pacing and an overly convoluted plot, it’s occasionally rescued by the brave Blake Lively’s lead performance and a handful of dynamically directed action beats courtesy of Reed Morano.
