This got me thinking a lot about permanence and impermanence and mortality. A lot of talk about tattoos and body modification is in the language of permanently altering your body, but in honesty our bodies are very volatile and temporary - what happens after death, when our bodies decompose? What does it mean that tattoos are works of art that ultimately get locked away and hidden from sight in coffins, or burnt into ashes?
