A lot of talk about tattoos and body modification is in the language of permanently altering your body, but in honesty our bodies are very volatile and temporary - what happens after death, when our bodies decompose? This showed me a new side of April Ashley I hadn't really considered. Judging from the 70s documentaries on her and snippets of gossip from other trans women around at the time, I had the impression she was a bit of a Tory, with the aristocratic living and the MBE of it all.
