Enjoy my latest entry in the SSIACCU (Spencer Steeby in a cubicle cinematic universe)
In April 2021, living in semi-isolation, I would wind down after a hard day of LinkedIn/job applications and tinder swiping by cracking open six cans of Carlsberg Danish Pilsner and watching Workaholics. This is the product of my headspace at that time.
This seems to have been the “Wes on autopilot” straw that broke many a camel’s back. It’s a bit slight, but I enjoy his smaller-scale films just the same (well, maybe a little less, but enough). I guess his earlier work is technically smaller scale than a globe-trotting espionage film with interludes in the afterlife, but emotionally and narratively this still feels pretty sparse, which for me is not a detractor but basically just a neutral quality of the film.…
