Lynch Binge (2):
Sadly only 2 entries into the Lynch Binge we already have something that didn’t work for me. This just didn’t feel like twin peaks. If this would be its own thing it would be fine but in the context of the show it just doesn’t fit. I know some people would disagree but the overall vibe wasn’t there. I feel this way especially because of the lack of humor and especially the bizarre humor I fell in love with in the show. (I don’t mean surrealist elements cause this has plenty of those I’m talking about characters like the log lady and major briggs for example that were just inherently weird and funny.)
Although this weirdness and humor is pertained to some degree, especially in the first third where we follow a completely new pair of detectives, when we switch to Lauras perspective it almost completely disappears. This switch was also the shift in my enjoyment of the film.
Another big gripe for me is that almost everything that is told here is already explained in the series. I didn’t really learn anything new about Lauras story or the characters.
I don’t think its bad. Some scenes were fantastic, visuals were gorgeous and the surrealist lynchian shit, that I so thoroughly enjoy was turned up to the max. But all in all it didn’t convince me of its necessity.
