Knives Out

2019

Rewatched with Rian Johnson commentary. Some of the info in here I’d heard before, almost verbatim, from Johnson himself during our interview. The best tidbit I did not know: The M. Emmet Walsh role was supposed to be played by Ricky Jay, who ed away just before the film went into production. There’s a picture of Jay in the background of Walsh’s scene. (RIP)

Lady and the Tramp

1955

★★★ Liked Watched

Wonderful hand-drawn animation, adorable life lessons, an oddly romantic song about dogs sharing spaghetti, and the occasional grotesque racial stereotype. Still better than the new one!

The Predator

2018

★★★ 4

If I owned a museum, I would take all of Sterling K. Brown’s scenes in this movie and project them on a loop on one of the walls. His performance is a great work of art.

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs

2009

★★ 2

This is one weird ass nature documentary.

Predator

1987

Me, taking my family to the mall the day after Christmas: “We move! Five-meter spread. No sound.”

Me, when the trip to the in laws is going badly: “So you cooked up a story and dropped the six of us in a meatgrinder?“

Me, to my daughter when she says she’s too sick for school then spends the whole day bouncing in bed and screaming: “You set us up. It was bullshit, all of it!”

Predator forever.

Avatar

‘Twas the night before Christmas,
Beneath a twinkling star,
Everyone else was asleep,
So I turned on Avatar.

TRON: Legacy

2010

★★½ 7

Surely one of the best-looking, best-sounding bad movies ever made.

Cats

2019

Liked 17

One of the weirdest things I have ever seen, now and forever. A full ing of the madness at ScreenCrush. As for a rating, on a 0-5 scale, I give Cats an onion.

The Star Wars Holiday Special

1978

½ 5

Okay, I take it back, Attack of the Clones isn’t that bad.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

2015

★★★½ Liked 7

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi

2017

I put on this around midnight figuring I’d fall asleep watching it and then I’d finish it the next day, but it’s so damn good I got sucked in and had to turn it off because after 90 minutes I was still wide awake. Mark Hamill gives the best performance ever in a Star Wars film and I honestly can’t think of a runner up that even comes close.
