I'm clearly not the target audience for this film/genre/franchise.

The Lion King

2019

★★ Watched

Basically a shot-for-shot and word-for-word remake of the 1994 animated motion picture. Created in a photorealistic style with clearly some very fancy CGI tools, the film looks like a very well shot nature documentary, but without the art, artistry, and beauty that made the 2D animated original such a runaway hit. Wonderful vocal and musical talent is wasted (freakin’ queen Beyoncé only gets a song and a half in the film—BEYONCÉ!). Every five minutes during the screening, I just wanted the projectionist to roll the 1994 original instead of this needless, uninspired rehash.

The North Avenue Irregulars

1979

★★★★ Rewatched

A new pastor (Edward Herrmann) arrives at North Avenue Presbyterian Church only to find out that the city has an undercover and pervasive gambling problem. He and some of the ladies from the church (Karen Valentine, Barbara Harris, Patsy Kelly, Virginia Capers, and MVP Cloris Leachman) help federal agents in bringing the gamblers down. One of the few 1970s comedies from the post-Walt era at the Disney Studios that really works. A fun and entertaining family film.
