The Beast

Oh my God it's like Cloud Atlas, but actually good!!!

Viewer be warned, Bertrand Bonello's The Beast is a sloooooooow burn, but it is hypnotic and entrancing if you allow yourself to get sucked into it. It's one of those films where you have to leave all logic at the door and just sit back and let the film wash over you, one of my favorite kinds of movies. Still on the fence about George Mackay because he reminds me of that Jasper Hale guy from Twilight who always looks surprised, but my God Lea Seydoux. My gaptoothed, perenially eyebagged queen, this is your best role and you shine so brightly in this.

There really should be a Letterboxd list of French directors imagining Los Angeles. We need more of The Substance's aerobics-fueled, New Years-obsessed Hollywood and The Beast's vapid models and whacked out trap clubs. Watch out for Comfrey from Succession being a model version of Comfrey from Succession!
