I wasn’t expecting American Pie to have some real verve to it. And aside from the lightly infectious energy, there are some genuinely funny lines every so often that caught me off guard. It’s a shame about the whole porn crime subplot, really sucks the life out of an otherwise just silly script.

Great stuff! Simultaneously one of his darkest movies and one of his most sentimental. Great performances all around and some truly laugh out loud funny moments. I’m especially glad I saw this with a fellow art history nerd who elbowed me every time he recognized a painting.

This is the sort of messy, sad, gorgeous, sexy movie that queer films should aspire to be. Not everything here worked for me, but I love how Luca swung for the fences at every opportunity.
