“Big things have small beginnings.”
In 2012, Ridley Scott delivers a further exploration of his masterpiece Alien, in Prometheus. It’s a prequel that further explores the lore of The Engineers and the motivations behind Wayland Yutani.
What I love most about this film is, this is a story that Scott wanted to tell. At this time, so many people just wanted another Alien. But Ridley wasn’t interested in doing that. Instead, focusing more on religion and creation. This is still one of the more divisive films that he has put out.
What he delivers is, a visual feast to the eyes. An intriguing & patient Sci-Fi epic, led by phenomenal performances from Michael Fassbender & Noomi Rapace. (Most stacked Ridley Scott cast ever?)
Unfortunately, I distinctly not being able to see this in the cinema, when it came out. So, I didn’t watch it until years later. But I how much my friends raved about this film. Eventually, I finally watched this and I it blowing me away.
Now, rewatching it, for like the 3rd time. I still find it to be quite remarkable. From the cinematography to the VFX to the score to the practical effects to the overall scope & tone are just astonishing. Scott is truly one of the greatest visionary’s of our time.
I’ve had so much fun revisiting the Alien franchise
and watching some for the first time. I love how different this film is from the rest. I can’t wait to revisit Alien: Covenant, because I’ve only seen it once & honestly, I don’t much, so that should be fun.
Also, I’ve loved following along with the House of Cinema podcast. It’s been so much fun!
