This is one of those movies that you discover, fall in love with and then wonder why no one else has ever heard of it.

As someone neurodivergent it's not always easy to find representation in movies that doesn't patronize or gloss over the worser parts. This one does not. Billy Crudup, in a career best performance, never once restrains in order to make you like him more. He is insufferable, honest to the point of cruelty, and completely bewildered…

The quintessential ghost story. Probably the most chilling and atmospheric entry into the genre ever made. And it was made for television. The newer version with Daniel Radcliffe is okay, but this is a masterclass.

Less is more and even though you only see the ghost a few times, she is a permanent presence. And when you do see her, particularly in 'that scene', she is scary as hell.

This is the template for all ghost stories. Directors, watch and learn.
