Meeting the Man: James Baldwin in Paris

Visual demonstration of how closely life and politics are interlaced together; the intention was to separate the political figure from the author but it became a failed experiment. You can’t solely project someone like Baldwin through his literary work and ignore him as a person. It’s impossible to do cause it comes down to the fact that one of these men could’ve really been dead tomorrow simply cause of the way he looks. That cold fact should be proof of how firmly ideology underlies life. It was funny hearing Dixon say he could argue that he knows about the struggle when he doesn’t know shit.

“I can save you. I know something about you. You don’t know anything about me.”

Filled my heart with joy hearing about how the Algerians took James under their wing and seeing the love for Another Country which still sits as one of my fav reads of all time.
