Cookie's Fortune

There’s nothing quite like a comedic murder mystery in a small southern town.

Altman does what he does best by introducing an ensemble of interesting characters and letting them sort out their problems. It feels like a season of a television show skillfully packed into a 2 hour movie.

Definitely getting strong In The Heat of The Night vibes throughout. Also I can bet money that Rian Johnson was watching this movie while writing Knives Out.

Oh yes, the score is excellent.

I think the best thing you can do for yourself as a film lover is it when directors you look up to fuck up.

Robert Altman this just isn’t it.

Now I’m not saying Being Charlie Sheen would have been more fun, but .......

Unforgiven is the model for the Revisionist Western.

It demystifies the Wild West in such a captivating and authentic way. Yet somehow it still maintains the spurts of badassery that the genre is so adored for.

Clint Eastwood might be a controversial person, but boy is he a good director.

Ps:
I usually don’t care much for split diopter shots, but the handful in this movie were actually pretty cool.

Why would you ever shoot a period piece set in the 30s on video ???? Ughhh Michael Mann you disappoint me.

3:10 To Yuma is a rare case of a remake being better than the already great original.

This is one of my favorite modern Westerns because it has it all. It’s got badass characters, underlying messages of morality in a lawless place, fun action scenes, and dolly-in shots of cowboys ready to draw their pistols. And oh yeah, Christian Bale and Russell Crowe play the hell out of their characters. Ben Wade is just incredible!

Love the small changes from the original.

Other than looking absolutely stunning, I really don’t get why people love this movie so much.

Beyond all the ridiculousness of this movie there is a very meaningful message of appreciation for all the sacrifices made by our andcestors.

There’s just something about the empty streets of Soho at night.

This is Scorsese’s most youthful movie and I love it. Even though I can’t possibly claim that I have any idea what Soho was like in 1985, this is how I imagine it. And to a degree, not much has changed. Counterculture ought to live on in a place populated by artists.

But yes, a 9-5 bloke ends up downtown and can’t make his way home as all types of crazy things keep happening. It’s funny and outrageous. Do check it out if you haven’t.

On paper this movie shouldn’t be good. It’s relatively uneventful and full of pseudo intellectual dialogue.

In reality, this is one of the most brilliant movies I’ve ever seen. Because it is somehow able to capture LOVE in 101 minutes. I was left in a euphoric state after my first viewing. Literally every fiber of my body was physically tingling with joy. It felt like a dopamine shot to MY HEART.

Don’t get me wrong. This is a wonderful sequel. But boy does it scare me.

I want to feel the youthful fuzziness of the first one again !!! We don’t want to grow up and realize that our lives are going nowhere!

I am very happy that it took on a whole different tone from the original. Great great work.

The first act was incredibly slow but the payoff is worth it.

Not many things are timeless but this movie made more than 50 years ago sure is.

I’m not going to pretend like I got all of it, but I’m not sure you’re supposed to. Very rarely does ambiguity work so well. Or maybe we just say these things cause we’re pretentious.

Anyway, colors go pretty !!
