Perché urla?

Perché è arrabbiato. Tu come te lo immagini, buono? E sorridente? Con occhi azzurri che ti possono abbracciare?

Sì.

E invece è arrabbiato, è furioso, è solo. Corre da un posto all'altro, e dovunque gli chiedono miracoli e guarigioni. E lui va, corre da tutti. Con intorno un gruppo di discepoli ignoranti, che non capiscono niente e gli chiedono sempre spiegazioni, chiarimenti. Non hanno un briciolo di immaginazione e si scandalizzano. Ecco, leggi.

Il rito di aggio dell'adolescenza non è diventare soldato e elettore di Dio ma è tagliarsi i capelli da sola, cercare gattini a piedi sulla statale e sviluppare un rapporto conturbante con le iconografie cristiche; ritrovare la fede nei vermi che si dibattono per vivere. A volte vorrei che Alice Rohrwacher mi spiegasse me stessa.

Still stands as one of the most memorable endings within me.

Very personal, and as I've said multiple times in other reviews, heartbreakingly familiar. Corpo Celeste is a film I'm very glad exists.

I thought this was really great. It totally captured that feel when you got to skip school and realised how sad your parents' jobs were. It also explored how there can be a strange relief when things are completely ruined. And links all this to a young woman's burgeoning atheism.

Beautifully shot as well (and weirdly satisfying sound design?!)

perfectly portrayed how it feels to be a teen in a community that makes you feel alienated and that continues to impose its beliefs, which they don't even really put into practice, on you without ever giving you the freedom to find your own path.
alice rohrwacher has this way of telling and capturing stories in the most delicate way possible. she makes everything, even the most ordinary moments, feel ethereal.

Gesù sta meglio nelle chiese abbandonate che non in quelle fredde e asettiche in cui si scambiano voti, si organizzano balletti in cui "le piccole vergini" vanno al ritmo del "ballo della casalinga" e le catechiste bigotte e un po' sadiche ordinano di "sintonizzarsi con Dio". Di fronte a questo scempio, anche un Cristo di legno si ribella e si tuffa in mare: meglio marcire fra quelle acque limpide (o fra quelle putride di un sottoaggio) che non affisso ad una parete accanto ad una croce al neon, con davanti un prete che non sa cosa dire

I was gonna give this an 4/5 but it's just too good. Alice Rohrwacher keeps making these masterpieces and gets so little recognition. It's a film so subtle that it may seem like it isn't saying much of anything, but what it actually is saying is just being tackled in a much different way. The exploration of curious youths and modern-day religious pursuit is done in a way where simple shots actually have a deep meaning behind them, and I thought that was brilliant. Highly recommend.
