This is the true story of Bobby Kent, a teen bully in the suburban town of Hollywood, Florida. Eventually, his best friend and girlfriend team up with the various other kids that are tired of getting beat up by him. Included in that group are the overweight Lisa Connelly. Together, seven teenagers lure Bobby out, deep into the swamp, promising him sex and drugs and when they get there, they beat him to death with baseball bats....

I think this film is pretty solid evidence that Larry Clark is an asshole.
He spends so much of this film shoving the camera into (ostensibly teenaged) genitalia that you begin to worry for the actors. It's not even attached to anyone's gaze when he does it. The camera just lingers on crotch shot, ass shots, chest shots, and little else for most of the first half of the film. It's a vastly more gross film in that regard than half the most blatant porns I've seen. Clark just seems to be getting his own jollies off, which is a presumption I hate making. It just feels that way, though.
The other major flaw is the vague air of sadism…
Not a cellphone in sight, just dysfunctional kids living the moment, engaging in despicable acts of violence. I wish we could go back to that.

Disgusting. This is like the most sweaty, dirty movie ever, I can only imagine how bad the characters stink. They bring them up differently in Florida evidently. Gross. It’s a Larry Clark film through and through, you’ll need a shower afterwards.
Anyway, the movie is good, very good. I actually used to watch this a lot when I was younger, much to my mother’s horror and disdain. I reckon this is prob the film that sparked my interest in true-crime.
The cast here are all really good, it’s almost alarming how good and convincing they are at playing these horrendous characters. Kelli Garner went on to do some good stuff after this, the rest of them kinda drifted into nothing though.
Awesome soundtrack. It’d be sexy if the movie weren’t so ugly.

A singularly disturbing film, based on a true story, about a group of white trash teens who decided to murder one of their friends and actually carried it out.
Nick Stahl is excellent as Bobby, a total bastard in many ways, who constantly beats up his "best friend" Marty (Brad Renfro). The character is a terrible person, but not without elements of complexity and interest. His friends put up with it until he rapes Ali (Bijou Phillips), which proves to be the last straw. Goaded on by Marty's unhinged new girlfriend Lisa (a spellbinding Rachel Miner), the gang hatch a plan to murder Bobby and dispose of the body.
Larry Clark was kind of a big deal in the world…
