Might be the horniest, most pornographic movie I’ve ever seen. Like so much of Ballard’s writing, it’s highly masturbatory: heavy on sensation and repetition, its foremost goal being escalation. After a point, it forgoes any pretence of plot whatsoever, which makes the film’s coherence and overall watchability that much more impressive.

A few too many thoughts to write them all down, but, this is a very creative film. I’ll always love how Lanthimos shoots his films. His fisheyes are bulging especially nicely in this, often adding humour which offsets the bizarre and morbid premise. Watching the film often feels like experiencing the world’s wonder again through the eyes of a child, which style contrasts wonderfully and uncomfortably with its themes and content.
