July films at DCA

Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone return this month, following up the Oscar-winning Poor Things with the dark and witty Kinds of Kindness. We have family ticket offers for Inside Out 2 and Despicable Me 4, then there’s romance and comedy in Fly Me to the Moon, the tale of a marketing team sent to NASA to stage a ‘back-up’ moon landing.

The darker side of summer - horror films this July at DCA

While many associate horror films with October, or maybe even our Dundead Film Festival in May, we know that the darker side of cinema is one that can be enjoyed all year round. Enjoy Disney Pixar’s Inside Out 2, at DCA Cinema this week. This delightful sequel to 2015’s Inside Out follows a now-teenaged Riley and her emotions as they take on their biggest challenge yet: puberty. Expect the touching and inventive storytelling of Inside Out, along with some hilarious new emotions including Anxiety, Ennui and Disgust.

There’s more family fun to come this week at DCA Cinema, as Despicable Me 4 arrives on our screens. This hilarious new instalment of Minions mayhem sees Gru and family on the run from a new nemesis, and features the vocal talents of Steve Carrell, Kirsten Wiig and Will Ferrell.

Travel back to the thrilling days of the Apollo 11 launch with Fly Me to the Moon, screening this week at DCA. Starring Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum, this sharp, stylish comedy-drama focuses on a marketing team, who are tasked with staging a fake moon landing as back-up for NASA's real mission.

The ultimate superhero crossover comes to DCA this week, with Deadpool & Wolverine arriving on screens. When the planet comes under threat, Wade Wilson must reluctantly suit up as Deadpool again, this time teaming up with an even more reluctant Wolverine. Don’t miss this hilarious odd couple story, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman on top form.

This month, don’t miss the beautiful new animated adaptation of Michael Morpurgo’s novel Kensuke’s Kingdom, the perfect treat to end the summer holidays. A new generaton of space explorers are in trouble in sci-fi spectacular Alien: Romulus, then there’s the inspiring story of Widow Clicquot, the ‘Grande Dame of Champagne’. Finally, we follow the riotous road to stardom with Kneecap, the story of the Irish-language hip-hop trio hilariously fictionalised for the big screen.

Enjoy enchanting animated adventure Kensuke’s Kingdom this week at DCA Cinema. Adapted from Michael Morpurgo’s bestselling novel, this hand-drawn animation tells the story of a young boy and his dog, shipwrecked on an island. What’s more, our Discovery Family Film Club screenings this weekend are Pay What You Can (£0-£8).

Step into the magical world of My Neighbour Totoro this week at DCA Cinema, as this beloved Ghibli film makes its return to the big screen. Following the gentle lives of two young girls and the nature spirit who befriends them, this whimsical animated adventure is now regarded as a classic. Kate Winslet stars as Lee Miller, the American war photographer, in Lee, a gripping biopic screening at DCA this week. There are more great performances in Starve Acre, a stylish folk horror featuring Matt Smith and Morfydd Clark, and My Favourite Cake, an Iranian romance which sees love bloom between two senior citizens.

Get your face paint at the ready as Joker: Folie à Deux arrives at DCA Cinema this week. This much-anticipated follow-up to 2019’s Academy Award-winning Joker sees the return of lead actor Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker himself, opposite Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn.

We’ve got so many exciting new films this month, including blockbuster historical dramas Firebrand, Leeand The Critic, plus The Outrun, The Substance and more. We’re showing a selection of new releases plus nostalgic favourites Toy Story, The Mummy (1999) and Pulp Fiction, all with the special ticket price of £4.

October is a packed month here at DCA Cinema. As well as our new releases, you can enjoy our Surrealism on Film season, a terrifying line-up of six Dundead Halloween films, chances to see the original Gladiator and Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope on the big screen, and Discovery Family Film Club is back with short films for families during the school holidays, followed by the start of Discovery Film Festival 2024. Come and enjoy a film with us at Dundee’s only independent cinema!
