I love this movie so much. Because it’s not just about Star Wars, you know? It’s not just a silly movie about nerds and dick jokes. That’s what was so irritating about the critical reaction. Roger Ebert said it “identifies too closely with its heroes.” But that’s the whole point! It’s a movie about what it’s like to be with people who share your fervor for something that most other people in your life (or the world) think is a waste of time. It’s about the draw of a subculture, the positive side of us-against-them. It’s not for everyone; it’s for us.
