Call Me by Your Name

this film has cunning ways of making me sob my fucking eyes out as soon as visions of Gideon starts playing.. so tender, so sweet and honeyed- guadinigos artistic direction and atmosphere building with every line of dialogue, his use of breath to convey things words cannot, the scenery and the score in everything he creates just truly truly incredible. I can fully understand why this movie doesn’t work for some people because in all honesty? At moments (the pacing specifically as I have an awful attention span) it doesn’t work for me either. However I just adore and respect this film far too much to ever speak down on it in any way. Maybe one of the most beautiful, tender, depictions of innocent young love ever portrayed on screen. i do understand the complaints of the problematic age gap in this and that some people may not be able to put it aside and I fully respect that but personally speaking, knowing it’s fiction i can separate that from the rest of the film thankfully, what with it being set in the 80s where this was much more of a common thing especially amongst queer relationships it does make sense plot wise imo. chalamets preformance is so convincing, subtle yet absolutely heart wrenching. You really feel everything elio is feeling right through the screen and as for michael stuhlbargs melancholy, warm warm monologue? Don’t even get me started. one of my favourite monologues of all time it’s just so beautiful so yeah FUCK U FUCK U FUCK U luca guadinigo but also thank u so much for everything you do u eccentric horny old man, I love ya I really do.
