The Wild Robot

2024

The Wild Robot’s biggest strength is how it doesn’t talk down to its audience. It knows the impact and power stories told through cinema can have and strives as it enchants its audience. I was constantly in awe of what I was watching. The film wastes no time, every moment or scene the film shares with us is important and necessary for the story it tells. Everything amounts to this beautiful and fulfilling film.

An absolute marvel from a technological and storytelling perspective, it’s one of those bright and shining examples of how much a movie can accomplish. I was almost overwhelmed by the creative work I was watching on screen. Dreamworks once again proves that, at least in my opinion, they are one of the best studios to go to when creatives want to tell a story through animation. As inconsistent as they are, Dreamworks can provide us with groundbreaking films. For every Shark Tale, there’s a How to Train Your Dragon. For every Boss Baby, there’s a Prince of Egypt. For every Monsters vs. Aliens, there’s a Wild Robot. A great addition to the inspired list of Dreamworks greats.

I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to capture with words what a tremendous work of art The Wild Robot is. Not only one of the best animated films I’ve seen from this year, but also one of the best films I’ve seen this year. A true testament for how great of a tool animation is for telling a story. I wish more people understood that. The Wild Robot will shine bright as one of the best creative works to come out in the year of Our Lord 2024. I continually thought to myself throughout the film “I’m glad I’m still alive to see this.”
