It almost feels like Fellini's showing off at this point how skilled he is behind the camera; every scene is just bursting with life and energy. Waking Life is a lot to take in on a first viewing, comprising purely of various philosophical conversations very loosely tied together into a narrative. I wasn't always sure where it was going, but every time the film was starting to lose me, it would pull me back in with another thought-provoking dialogue.

The choice to have the film be animated is not a gimmick at all, as it's entirely fitting to give the film this dreamlike trance. There's plenty…
