I had a small realization of something very obvious while watching this. Movies about vigilante justice don't necessarily condone the illegal actions themselves, but instead, they paint the protagonist as someone who will always have the moral high ground no matter what. Oh, you're just a telemarketing scammer? Get punched, everyone will cheer. Wait, isn't torture a crime against humanity? It's fine, we know he is only torturing an unquestionably evil guy. Shooting someone important on the head in the final scene? Well, let's make sure the audience re he very much deserves that. The Beekeepers are the "real" law enforcement, while the FBI stuff is mostly stale. Due process doesn't make good action.

Anyway, after an accidental binge of three Ayer movies in a month, I can see that he surely has a distinct visual identity, and if he can drop at least some of his MAGA tendencies, maybe he could even be part of something good in the future.
